The Pregnancy Pillow: Everything You Need to Know

Posted by Chris Larcombe on

CPregnancy is a time of great physical and emotional changes. Along with these changes comes increased fatigue and back pain. A pregnancy pillow can help alleviate some of the discomforts by providing support for the back, neck, and belly.

WHAT IS IT?

A pregnancy pillow, also known as a body pillow, is an elongated pillow designed to keep you super duper comfy. Whether you’re pregnant or in need of a cuddle (without the snoring), this elongated pillow is guaranteed to get you sleeping better. Especially when it’s made from 100% pure New Zealand Merino wool.

There are many different types of these pillows on the market. Some are designed to support the belly, while others support the back and neck. Some pillows even have a built-in speaker so that you can listen to music or audiobooks while you rest. Kind Face has decided to focus on comfort first and foremost. That’s why we’ve used only the best natural, locally-sourced materials. Our elongated support pillow is washable too! Just remove the inner Cloud Wool (and store it cautiously) then throw the inner cover in the washing machine and set it on cold wash. Pro-tip: buy a second pillow cover and simply transfer the wool from one to the other!

It's also possible to hand wash Kind Face Cloud Wool with luke warm water, using non-harsh detergents. Or you can simply let it air out in the sun. Our Cloud Wool loves a little sunlight!

The best pregnancy pillow is the one that provides a full body experience, including plenty of back support as well as belly support. It will help ease back pain, alleviate discomfort around the tummy, and maintain good alignment while sleeping. Additionally, these pillows can provide support for the legs and knees, helping to reduce restless leg syndrome and foot cramps. For women who are struggling with morning sickness, the pillow can also provide some relief by elevating the head and shoulders during sleep.

WHEN SHOULD YOU START USING A BODY PILLOW?

Around the world, pregnant women have been using pillows to help support their bodies during pregnancy for centuries. In recent years these pillows have become widely available and are said to offer more support and comfort than a regular pillow. But at what week should you start using a pregnancy pillow?

There is no definitive answer, as every woman and every pregnancy is different. Some women find that they need the extra support from a maternity pillow from the very beginning, while others don’t start using one until later on in their pregnancy.

If you’re not sure whether or not you need a special pillow, pay attention to how you sleep and how comfortable you are. If you find yourself tossing and turning or waking up often during the night, it might be time to give a pregnancy pillow a try.

WILL A PREGNANCY PILLOW HELP WITH HIP PAIN?

If you're pregnant and suffering from hip pain, you may be wondering wether this magical pillow can help. Pregnancy pillows are designed to support your growing belly and can help relieve some of the pressure on your hips. While they won't cure your hip pain, they may help you get through the night with a little less discomfort.

WHAT ABOUT NECK PAIN?

If you're one of the thousands of Kiwis who experience neck pain, you know how debilitating it can be. Traditional pillows don't always offer the support you need to find relief. But there are a few different types of pillows that can help ease your neck pain. The body pillow might be what your neck needs!

One option is a cervical pillow, which is designed to support your neck in its natural alignment. Another is a memory foam pillow, which conforms to the shape of your head and neck. There are also water-filled pillows and gel-filled pillows that can provide extra support and comfort.

On the other hand, our wool-filled pillows allow you to add or remove as much wool filling as is needed so that the pillow is adjusted to the perfect comfort and support that you prefer. Adjust the filling needed for a better night’s rest.

IS IT WORTH GETTING ONE?

Pregnancy is a beautiful time in a woman’s life. But it can also be tough on a woman’s body. Many women experience aches and pains in their back, hips, and legs as their pregnancy progresses. This pillow can help alleviate some of these discomforts by providing back support and a place for the belly or legs to rest.

These support pillows come in all shapes and sizes, so it’s important to choose one that will fit your body type and sleeping style. Some women prefer a smaller pillow that they can carry with them from room to room, while others prefer a larger pillow that stays in place on the bed. The Kind Face Body Pillow has a straightforward design so that it can be molded and shaped to suit your needs and those of your bump!

PREGNANCY PILLOW MATERIALS

There are many different types of materials used for pregnancy pillows, so it’s important to choose one that will be comfortable for you. We recommend staying away from cheaper materials such as polyester. We use only the best organic materials. Our breathable Body Pillow is filled with high-quality, proudly NZ Merino wool and covered in either 100% Japara cotton or 100% Turkish linen.
